Sebastian Knebel

Sebastian Knebel is one of the most sought-after central German specialists for organ and harpsichord music of the 17th and 18th century. Initially he completed an apprenticeship as organ builder and whilst still completing his education, he was an active organist at several Berlin churches. After initial studies at the Dresden School for Church Music, he continued at the “Franz Liszt” University for Music in Weimar. He subsequently studied harpsichord/historical keyboard instruments under Ludger Rémy at the Folkwang University in Essen. Through courses in historical performance practice under teachers such as Ton Koopman and Harald Vogel, he further developed his skills.  Sebastian Knebel is organist and harpsichord player at the Cappella Sagittariana in Dresden, the Collegium Marianum in Prague and the Telemannisches Collegium Michaelstein. He regularly works as the artistic director of the vocal consort labia vocalia. He is renowned for his extensive soloist work on the harpsichord, organ and fortepiano. Concert tours lead him amongst others to France, Poland, the Czech Republic, England, Switzerland, the USA, and Mexico. He performed for several CD, radio and television recordings. Since 2007 Sebastian Knebel has been working regularly as guest organist at the Bach Society in Houston, Texas.
